Publishing with Afarand

Since 2003, Afarand has worked with universities and research institutes to establish, manage and publish scholarly journals. Our work rests on three principles: the editorial independence of each journal's editor-in-chief, a peer-review model appropriate to each journal, and consistent structure in everything we publish, so that readers and researchers can find, cite and reuse it easily.

What Afarand provides

  • Editorial management. An online submission and peer-review system (SABA Review System) through which authors submit and track manuscripts, and editors and reviewers handle the review process.
  • Editing and integrity checks. Before publication, the Afarand Scholarly Publishing Editorial Team (ASPET) edits accepted manuscripts for clarity, consistency and structure, and checks them for similarity, image and data problems and reference accuracy.
  • Open-access publication. A website for each journal, immediate open access under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0), and a DOI (prefix 10.58209) for every article.
  • Visibility and indexing. Support for journals in meeting the requirements of indexing and abstracting services. The current indexing of each journal is shown under Our Journals.
  • Preservation. Deposit of published content with the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) and a permanent archive on the journal and publisher websites (see the Archiving Policy).
  • Policies and publication ethics. Journal policies based on the COPE Core Practices and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, set out in the Afarand Best Practice Statement.
  • Training. Workshops for editors, reviewers and authors on journal management, publication ethics and scholarly writing.

What journal owners keep

Afarand is the publisher of its journals, not their owner. Each journal remains the property of the university or research institute that owns it. The owner appoints the editor-in-chief, and the editor-in-chief has full authority over editorial content and decisions. The relationship between the owner, the editor-in-chief and Afarand is set out in a written agreement (see Ownership and Management).

Experience

Over the years, the Afarand team has managed and published journals for many institutions. A list of earlier titles is available on the Afarand Journals page.
