Peer Review Process

 | Post date: 2026/10/23 |

All submitted articles are evaluated at submission to check that they meet the structural and subject principles of Philosophical Thought. Articles that pass this check undergo a double-blind peer-review process by at least two specialist reviewers (experts in the field who are not part of the journal’s editorial staff), who are selected by the Editorial Board members according to their field specialties. The Editorial Board members have the final responsibility to select the articles.

The review workflow of Philosophical Thought, with the maximum time allowed for each stage, is as follows:

  1. Submission of the article by the author, together with the signed Authors’ Commitment Form.
  2. Subject and minimum-quality check by the Editor-in-Chief (48 hours). The article may be rejected at this stage on subject or quality grounds.
  3. Structural check against the Guide for Authors (48 hours). The article is approved, returned to the author for structural revision, or rejected on structural grounds.
  4. Selection of reviewers by the Editor-in-Chief (48 hours).
  5. Peer review (15 days). Each reviewer recommends rejection, major revision, moderate revision, minor revision, or acceptance.
  6. Summary of the reviewers’ comments (at least two specialist reviewers) by the Editor-in-Chief (48 hours). The article may be rejected on scientific grounds or sent to the author for revision.
  7. Revision by the author according to the reviewers’ comments (7 days).
  8. Evaluation of the revisions by the Editor-in-Chief (72 hours). The article is accepted, rejected on scientific grounds, or returned for further revision (at most three times).
  9. Editing and preparation of the accepted article for publication by the publication unit.
  10. Galley proof sent to the submitting author for final approval (72 hours).
  11. Final pagination and publication of the article.

At each stage handled by the Editor-in-Chief, the Editor-in-Chief may, at his discretion, delegate the evaluation to the journal’s scientific editors.
